Increased demands for superior quality and distortion-free tempered glass are readily met at Garibaldi
Glass with the latest generation H.H.H. architectural convection-tempering furnace.
As a generalization, tempered (toughened) glass is three to five times stronger than non-tempered glass of the same
thickness. This ability makes tempered glass the number one choice in safety situations.
With our oversized loading beds, we are capable of tempering 1/8" (3mm) to 3/4" (19mm) thickness and a capacity
up to 84" x 210".
Characteristics
Strength of tempered glass is 3-5 times greater than that of ordinary glass. When glass is broken by external
force, it will form oblique bean size granules to reduce damage. Tempered glass can withstand quick temperature changes.
NOTE: Heat-treated glasses are classified as either fully tempered or heat-strengthened.
Safety Concern
Fully tempered glass is used traditionally in place of other glass products in applications requiring strength
and reduced likelihood of injury in the event of breakage. Unlike annealled glass which can shatter into
jagged shards when broken, tempered glass fractures into small, relatively harmless pieces.
The building industry, motor vehicle industry and certain manufacturing industries find tempered glass
is effective and economical in a wide range of applications.
Applications
The tempered glass can be used for safety glazing in applications such as doors, side lights, shower and
tub enclosures, and interior partitions. Tempered glass has been used in unique applications such as
skylights, racquetball courts, and sloped glazing.
Any conditions or requirements should refer to current safety glazing laws and building codes prior to installation.
Irregular Shapes
Glass which is irregular in shape can often be toughened. Some shapes, however, are difficult to support
in the tempering furnace. Secure approval of unusual designs before concluding that the shape can be tempered.
