Manager of Information Technology

Position Summary:

We are currently looking for a Manager of Information Technology to be based at our office in Burnaby, BC. The successful candidate will be a "hands on" Manager who will bring expertise to our company and be responsible for the day to day operation of the information systems and information technology environment. The Manager of Information Technology reports to the Vice President of the company. The IT Manager will be responsible for IT Operations and IT Solutions and to ensure system availability through seamless IT processes from concept/idea through to implementation and ongoing support. This position provides hands on service to users and maintains the performance targets of our systems through regular monitoring and tuning activities. Project management skills and techniques are required in order to manage assigned project work.

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the IT Help Desk including all trouble calls and management for 80 desktops, 12 servers and plant computer interface related equipment. Manage issues log from creation through resolution
  • Manage all infrastructure services including network, VoIP, desktop, server, storage, plus the manufacturing plant computer interfaces and systems and business applications.
  • Develop, implement and ensure ongoing adherence to proper ITIL processes for configuration, incident, problem, change, and asset management.
  • Lead the implementation and maintenance of highly effective IT solutions to meet the company’s needs.
  • Manage internal IT implementation projects ensuring quality, budget and schedule.
  • Collaborate with internal customers to conduct regular evaluations of internal IT service quality and effectiveness.
  • Provide strong technical leadership training to staff.
  • Maintain and enforce network security.
  • Procure hardware, software and IT services.
  • Ensure compliance with GGI corporate IT policies, procedures and standards.
  • Plan and implement network security, including building firewalls, applying cryptography to network applications, managing host security, file permissions, backup and disaster recovery plans, file system integrity, and adding and deleting users.
  • Determine optimum system configuration software/hardware). Analyze the vendor changes and enhancements to software by assessing the impact on existing production systems, operating procedures and data backup.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate policies and procedures and audit the use of and need for them.
  • Budgets and forecasting - participate with other members of the management team to develop capital and operating budgets for services and equipment; ensure adherence to these budgets by performing duties such as monitoring expenditures and recommending remedial action; take corrective action to ensure performance to plan.
  • Provide on-call service when required by consulting on the telephone dialing in from home or working non-normal hours to resolve problems, install new hardware, or perform systems maintenance functions.
  • Identify educational needs of employees, develop, implement and evaluate on a regular and ongoing basis orientation, training and educational programs. Establish priorities and provide work activities to ensure that the service standards are maintained.
  • Oversee telecommunications systems including voice, data, and video communication.
  • Manage all mobile devices for the organization (Blackberrys, Phones, PDAs).
  • Install, configure and support VoIP, VPN, remote sites, routers, switches, firewalls and evaluate third-party tools.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements:

  • 10 years experience in various aspects of IT operations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational / project management skills.
  • Ability to champion process improvement initiatives.
  • Solid Administration skills in VoIP, TCP/IP, DNS & DHCP, Security, Microsoft Server 2003-2008, Exchange Server Administration.
  • Ability to deal professionally with internal clients and at all levels of the organization.
  • The ability to grasp new material quickly, have proven initiative in independent research, attention to detail, and a positive attitude.
  • Solid technical understanding of SAN, VMware, and DRP.
  • Experience with hardware and software procurement and managing vendor relationships.
  • Experience with configuring and repairing all network devices.
  • Good knowledge of network and data security principles and practices.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL processes and supporting tools.
  • Superior problem solving and troubleshooting ability.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience working in a Medium to Large enterprise IT environment.
  • Application experience: Maximizer, Simplicity, PMC, LISEC, Navision, AutoCAD, All MS- Office Products including Project
  • Experience with IT practices related to controlled data, SQL and other Database experience.
  • A solid knowledge of security technologies and processes to ensure data security.
  • The willingness to constantly develop and educate herself or himself.
  • Experience in IT in a manufacturing environment would be extremely beneficial.

Education:

  • Degree in Computer Science or related area.
  • MCITP: Enterprise Administrator - MCITP: Exchange Messaging Administrator.
  • SQL 2005 or Equivalent.
  • CCNP or Equivalent.
  • Basic business administration skills to be able to judge cost versus value.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
